Chernihiv, a northern Ukrainian city, was marred by a devastating event as a Russian missile strike left a trail of destruction. This merciless attack resulted in the loss of seven lives, including a six-year-old girl, and inflicted injuries on 117 individuals. Among the wounded are 12 children, as shared by Oleksandr Lomako, the acting mayor of the city.

President Volodymyr Zelensky, during his visit to Sweden, expressed his condemnation of the tragic event that unfolded. The missile strike occurred while he was in Sweden, marking his first visit since the onset of the war. The heart-wrenching attack razed buildings in Chernihiv’s center, a mere 60 miles from the Russian border.

Zelensky took to Twitter, denouncing the strike and its implications, emphasizing the unity of the global community against such acts of terror. He expressed the profound sorrow and pain inflicted upon the city, as landmarks such as a square, the polytechnic university, and a theatre were targeted in the ruthless attack.

The President’s visit to Sweden included discussions with Sweden’s prime minister, Ulf Kristersson, and engagements with King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

Meanwhile, President Vladimir Putin of Russia convened with top military officials near the Ukrainian border in Rostov-on-Don. Putin listened to reports from Valery Gerasimov, the commander overseeing Moscow’s operations in Ukraine, and other key military figures.
